About this independent tour

This is a private itinerary including a private transfers and local English-speaking tour guides for excursions and sightseeing. The itinerary is completely flexible, so you can choose your number of nights, change hotel category, add excursions and extend your holiday. There is an option of including meals wherever desired. Please fill the form at the end of the itinerary for any changes and tailor the tour according to your need basis.

Detail Itinerary

Day 1

Chennai

  • Arrival in Chennai, transfer to the hotel. Chennai, the city formerly known as Madras is the capital of the Indian state of Tamil Nadu. Located on the Coromandel Coast of Bay of Bengal.
  • Visit the Fort St. George, once
  • Former British fortress, the cathedral of St. Thomas, the Marina Beach, beautiful Temple of Milapor, devoted to Lord Ganesha. Overnight at Hotel.

Day 2

Chennai – Mahabalipuram

  • After breakfast, drive to Mahabalipuram. Arrival & Check in at the hotel.
  • Later visit to Mahabalipuram - it is a former Pallava Dynasty port and one of the famous temple cities of India.
  • In addition to the famous Coastal temple, the complex includes 14 cave temples, five small temples, known as 5 chariots, and a number of stone sculptures. Overnight at hotel.

Day 3

Kanchipuram- Pondicherry

  • After breakfast drive to Pondicherry, on the way - a visit to Kanchipuram. Kanchipuram - one of the seven sacred and most ancient cities in India and in the south and is considered the most sacred.
  • Pondicherry - the former center of the French territory, which has now a separate status. Generally Pondicherry is famous for the world famous teacher of integral yoga. Sri Aurobindo –Auroville.
  • In the afternoon, visit Pondicherry: visit the Church of the Sacred Heart of Jesus and Sri Aurobindo Ashram.
  • • Later visit Auroville - "City of Dawn". Designed by French architect Roger Argerich, this small town is an absolutely new concept of education and urban living. Overnight at hotel.
  • Overnight at hotel.

Day 4

Pondicherry – Tanjore

  • Morning drive to Tanjore. After arriving to the hotel, visit Tanjore.
  • Former capital of the Chola Empire from the tenth to the fourteenth century.
  • Overnight at hotel.

Day 5

Tanjore - Trichy – Madurai

  • Breakfast at the hotel and drive to Madurai, enroute Sightseeing of Tanjore and visit Trichy.
  • Visit the Rock Fort Temple that reaches 83 meters in height and stands on a rocky massif, steeply to the old part of the city.
  • As such, two temple are there - the temple of Shiva (for believers) and the Ganesha temple, where they allow the tourists.
  • The road to the temple is quite steep, but the panorama opening from the top is worth it to overcome it. Later continue drive to Trichi.
  • Upon arrival, visit the amazing temple complex of Sri Ranganathasvami (Srirangam). Its main entrance was built in 1987 and now stands at 73 meters.
  • Arrival in Madurai and check in at hotel & overnight at hotel.

Day 6

Madurai

  • Morning visit Meenakshi (temple). Meenakshi temple is named in the honor of the goddess Meenakshi, one of the wives of the god Shiva.
  • This temple is 258 meters wide and 223 meters long. Height - 51.9 meters. He is crowned with fourteen Gopuram (towers) height of 50 meters. Five towers are located inside the temple, the other outside.
  • In the evening visit the Meenakshi temple to witness the ceremony, when a bronze statue of the Great Shiva is transferred to the bedchamber of Meenakshi (Parvati). The procession is accompanied by religious prayer and temple music.
  • Overnight at hotel.

Day 7

Madurai –Periyyar

  • After breakfast drive to Periyyar (180 km). Upon arrival check-in at hotel.
  • Periyyar is one of the largest and most visited wildlife sanctuaries of India. It occupies 777 square kilometers of cardamom hills of the Western Ghats.
  • It is ideal for recreation, hidden in the middle of the mountains, full of exotic flora and wildlife. In the afternoon boat cruise on the lake. Overnight at hotel.

Day 8

Periyyar – Kumarakom

  • After breakfast, drive to Kumarakom. Arrival and check in at hotel.
  • Kumarakom - a beautiful and enchanting backwaters village. The silent & quite backwaters of Kumarakom makes it one of the popular spots for tourists.
  • Overnight at hotel.

Day 9

Kumarakon Backwater Cruise

  • In the morning after breakfast check out from the hotel and drive to board the houseboat. Cruise on a houseboat on the backwaters of Malabar will give you an unforgettable experience. Houseboat - a huge, slow moving barge, on which you can make a leisurely cruises.
  • Originally known as Kettuvellam (boat with knots), it has been carefully converted into a houseboat for water cruises with bamboo mats, interior of bamboo, betel palm trees and other natural materials.
  • Houseboat has all the comforts of a good hotel with two furnished bedrooms, modern toilets, cozy living room and a balcony for fishing.
  • In the shade of a palm protruding curved roof is nothing to prevent the serene contemplation of Malabar.
  • Set in motion a powerful engine, the boat slowly glides over the calm backwaters. Overnight on board the houseboat.

Day 10

Alleppey- Kochi

  • Breakfast in the morning and later disembark houseboat in Alleppey. Transfer to Kochi (earlier called Cochin).
  • Arriving in Kochi, visit, Mattancherry Dutch Palace was built by the Portuguese and presented to the governor of Cochin Veera Kerala Varma in 1555. Cochin Jews, also called Malabar Jews are the oldest group of Jews in India, with possible roots claimed to date to the time of King Solomon.
  • The Cochin Jews settled in the Kingdom of Cochin in South India, now part of the state of Kerala.
  • After India gained its independence in 1947 a lot of Cochin Jews moved to Israel. Most of their synagogues have been sold and adapted for other uses.
  • The Paradesi synagogue still has a congregation and also attracts tourists as an historic site.
  • The synagogue at Chennamangalam was reconstructed in 2006 and the one at Parur is currently being reconstructed.
  • Overnight at hotel.
